DVM/HD (legacy - hard-drive based HD video player)

There were 19 questions found in this category:

  1. questionCan I connect Alcorn McBride video players to an LCD Screen?
Yes, the players can be used to drive various LCD screens such as TFT screens. The standard definition players output NTSC or PAL frequencies, so only an LCD that accepts component or composite video at these frequencies will work. Many desktop PC monitors will not sync to these standard video f ...
  2. questionCan the DVMHD play 24p encoded material?
Yes. It will convert the 24p encodings to the specified format (1080i30, 720p60, etc.) during playback. Please refer to the DVM/HD manual for a complete list of supported formats.
  3. questionDuring playback, the screen occasionally goes to black, or the unit repeats frames. What's wrong?
These problems are symptoms of a buffer underflow error. This is caused when the stream reports that it should be played at a particular bitrate, but it does not provide enough information within itself to be played at that rate. This problem can occasionally be eliminated by remultiplexing the ...
  4. questionHD-SDI Cable Length
The limiting factor in cable length has less to do with the DVMHD-Pro output, but more related to the display device (or cable equalizer) at the receive end. Assuming a high-quality input circuit, the maximum cable length recommended is 100m of Belden 8281 or 140m of Belden 1694. It's important ...
  5. questionHow can I create a new Hard Drive for the DVMHDPro or DVMHD?
Note: Older model DVMHDs may require special partitions not shown in these instructions. If you model number is not m08, m0A, m0C or m0D (see step 11), please contact Alcorn technical support for more detail.1. Install or insert the new, blank drive into PC running WinXP. 2. Use the Computer Ma ...
  6. questionHow do I terminate the video sync signal on a DVM/HD?
By default, the DVM/HD is configured to terminate the sync input with a 75 ohm load. However, this termination can be removed with a configuration jumper if necessary. This 2-pin jumper is located on the DVM/HD Decoder Card inside the DVM/HD chassis. The jumper header is directly beside the gold ...
  7. questionI cannot select two clips in a row on the DVM/HD without getting the E12 error.
If you can play the bitstream repeatedly without problems but have to cycle power between viewings make sure that your DVMHD serial controller is not adding Line Feeds to each Carriage Return (a common happening). That might explain why you can't search two in a row.
  8. questionI'm replacing a DVM/HD with a DVM-8400. Will the same videos play in the DVM-8400 without conversion?
Most likely. In addition to several other formats, the DVM-8400 plays MPEG2 Transport Streams (just like the DVM/HD). There are only two cases where the files would not play as expected. First, the bitrate of the videos must not exceed 40Mbps. The DVM/HD supported a maximum bitrate of 50Mbps, so ...
  9. questionI've connected my display to the DVM/HD, but I don't see any video. What's wrong?
The DVM/HD has 2 HD15 connectors. One is the PC VGA output, and the other is the HD Video connector. Make sure that your video cable is connected to the 'HD Video Out' connector. If you are connected to the correct output and are still not seeing video (but hear audio), make sure that both the H ...
  10. questionI've lost my DVM/HD front panel keys! Help!
If an installation contractor purchased and installed the unit for you, please contact them to request a new set of keys. If you purchased the unit directly from us, and you are outside the U.S., please contact your local distributor. Otherwise, please contact Alcorn McBride Technical Support.
  11. questionIs my Digital Video Machine compatible with a DLP or D-ILA digital projector?
The Digital Binloop HD, DVM/HD (legacy and model 8400HD) and DVM2 both include analog component video outputs that are fully compatible with digital projectors that provide corresponding inputs.
  12. questionThe quality of my HD material is not what I expected, what can I do?
As with any digital video system, the output quality depends on the source material, bitrate, output hardware, and display. The following list describes the most common reasons for unacceptable output quality on the DVM/HD: 1. Source material must be of high resolution and low compression. Commo ...
  13. questionVideo files on my DVM/HD play correctly when played alone, but not in a playlist. Why?
The files must have identical encoding parameters to be played seamlessly. The DVM/HD defaults to 'seamless' mode when clips are placed sequentially in a playlist, concatenating the files during playback. If the encoding parameters (bitrate, picture size, frame rate, etc.) are different between ...
  14. questionVideo Signal Distribution
Normally, anything over about 3 meters should be avoided unless a video distribution amplifier is used. Many companies make them, including Video Accessory Corporation (www.vac-brick.com).
  15. questionWhat device should I use to generate the synchronization signal for multiple DVMHDs?
A Multiple Output Blackburst generator is the best thing to use. The BSG-50 from Horita is a good choice. www.horita.com
  16. questionWhat type of digital video interfaces are supported by the DVM/HD?
The DVMHD (model 8400HD) supports HD-SDI, HDMI, analog component, and composite (downconverted SD video). All 4 outputs are on simultaneously.
  17. questionWhen I connect the DVM/HD my display device, all white objects are displayed as green.
The DVM/HD is likely configured for YPbPr, while the display device is configured for RGB-HV. To correct this problem, alter the output colorspace setup of the DVM/HD. See the DVM/HD manual for more information.
  18. questionWhen I connect the DVM/HD my display device, all white objects are displayed as pink.
The DVM/HD is likely configured for RGB-HV, while the display device is configured for component input (YPbPr). To correct this problem, alter the output colorspace setup of the DVM/HD. See the DVM/HD manual for more information.
  19. questionWhere can I download the latest software release for my Digital Video Machine HD?
